Honoring Our Heroes: Redemption Ranch K9 Award Recipients

At Redemption Ranch K9, our mission would not be possible without the incredible people who believe in us, support us, and stand alongside us in giving shelter dogs a new purpose. Today, we want to recognize some of the remarkable individuals and organizations that have played a crucial role in making this program a reality.

The Evan Brenneman Difference Maker Award

Named after our biggest supporter, the Evan Brenneman Difference Maker Award is given to those who have made an extraordinary impact on our mission.

⭐ Chief Prewitt, Plainfield Police Department – When no one else believed this could be done, Chief Prewitt took a chance on us. He backed his officers, supported this initiative, and played a pivotal role in proving that shelter dogs can become elite police K9s. Without his belief in this idea, Redemption Ranch K9 simply wouldn’t exist.

⭐ Chief Ladonna Hughes, Hendricks County Animal Shelter – Chief Hughes goes above and beyond for the animals in her care. There is no challenge she won’t tackle to ensure every dog gets a second chance. The number of animals that owe their lives to her dedication is immeasurable, and we are forever grateful for her passion and persistence.

The "Never Surrender" Award

This award is given to those who refuse to give up, no matter how difficult the road ahead may seem.

⭐ Dr. Jackie Busch, Healthy Paws Animal Hospital – Dr. Busch is a warrior for shelter pets, including ours. No matter how severe the trauma, how complex the injury, or how grim the prognosis, she never backs down from a fight to save an animal’s life. Our dogs couldn’t be in better hands, and we are honored to recognize her unwavering dedication.

The "Trenches" Award

This award is for those who are on the front lines of this mission, dedicating their time, skills, and passion to supporting our K9 program.

⭐ Becky Wanick – Well known for her artwork of police canines, Becky’s support for Redemption Ranch K9 goes far beyond her creative talents. She has met us at shelters, evaluated dogs, translated our training language for others, and even hidden from our dogs to help them practice their detection skills. She also advocates for us in law enforcement communities and is helping push for legislative changes. Becky is truly in the trenches with us, and we are grateful for her dedication.

The "Kahu" Award

In Hawaiian, the word "Kahu" means protector, savior, and someone entrusted with something precious—a fitting title for those who open their homes to dogs in need.

⭐ Erica Dewey-Melinger, Alicia Coy Sims, and Travis Sims – These incredible individuals stepped up with zero notice and zero hesitation to foster K9 Kilo and K9 Lucky, providing them with the love and stability they needed to begin their new journey. Their willingness to take in these dogs on a moment’s notice made all the difference, and we are honored to recognize them for their selflessness.

Honoring Our Sponsors & Supporters

We simply could not do this without the generosity of our sponsors and supporters. Thanks to them, we are able to provide equipment, food, and veterinary care to police agencies at no cost.

A huge thank you to:

Your support changes lives—both human and canine. Because of you, more shelter dogs are finding purpose, more officers are gaining invaluable partners, and more communities are becoming safer.
