Kilo's Tail - From Dumpster To Duty

Left to perish in a winter storm, K9 Kilo had every reason to give up, but his unbreakable spirit refused to let his story end there. This one-year-old Belgian Malinois was found abandoned in Indianapolis—chained to a dumpster, starving, and fighting to survive. When animal control rescued him, he was severely emaciated and desperate for food. Tragically, because he growled when they tried to take his meal away—after days without eating—he was labeled as “resource guarding” and scheduled for euthanasia.

Thankfully, a compassionate volunteer knew about Redemption Ranch K9 and stepped in just in time. With their help, Kilo was placed in a loving foster home, where he received the medical care, nourishment, and affection he had never known. Despite everything he had endured, Kilo’s sweet nature and relentless drive quickly became clear.

From the moment he arrived, his incredible ball drive showed us he was born for detection work. Today, K9 Kilo proudly serves with the Wolcott Police Department as a detection and tracking dog. He also plays a crucial role in ensuring safety at Purdue University games, scanning the crowds and keeping Boilermaker fans secure.
If you ever find yourself at a Purdue game, keep an eye out for this incredible good boy—once left for dead, now thriving in a career where he protects and serves. Kilo’s journey is proof that with love, care, and the right opportunity, even the most neglected dogs can become unstoppable heroes.

My eyes are your eyes,
to watch and protect you and yours.
My ears are your ears,
to hear and detect evil minds in the dark.
My nose is your nose,
to scent the invader of your domain.
And so you may live,
my life is also yours.
